Une comparaison iSonic VS Futura par Remi Villa et Tiesda You : http://www.star-board.com/2010/news_eve ... eadid=8010

"The Futura is basically a Fast Free-Ride machine that will be sweet for all riders who don't want to go for the full race machine who need more skill and more race sails.
The Futura are more easy in choppy water and easy jibber compare to iSonic. Less physical demand. You can arrive to use the maximum potential more easily than iSonic with more secure.
But just to you know, smaller size are very fast particularly when the condition is hard choppy with strong winds and can rival to iSonic."

L'iSonic 111 Wood Carbon testée par German SURF : http://www.star-board.com/2010/news_eve ... eadid=8249" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Short characteristic: The new iSonic 111 in the wood carbon version feels much more crispy compared to the prerunners and combines a lively, fleet-footed riding performance with the objective best speed potential.
It´s a bit challenging to find the right fin tuning and to optimize the fin trimm. With the right finsize (38 or 40 cm in length) no other board is easier to accelerate like the iSonic 111: tuned with a 38 cm fin in windy conditions the testriders really liked the board.

MOVES:
narrow Race Jibe: excellent
wide jibe: excellent

FREERIDE/FREERACE:
Control: excellent
Riding performance: direct

PERFORMANCE:
Topspeed: excellent (best together with the Tabou Manta)
Speed in medium wind: excellent
Start planning, acceleration: excellent (top points with JP & Fanatic)

On land: The 2010 footstrap models are easier to adjust compared to the last years straps, especially when you want to get them wider (for windsurfers with big feet and shoes). The iSonic board gets offered in 2 constructions, but without fins.
Shape: in the front plane, in the middle part a slight V, futher back a slightly double concave shape with a V, at the fin a strong plane V.

On the water: Fully powered up with a 38 fin the Starboard offers almost the same control as the RRD, with a fleet-footed unresisting riding experience. The board "sizzles" absolutely free above the water and offer sthe sailor the most racing fun. When the wind drops, the board needs a bit bigger sized fin to keep up the speed. Otherwise you are loosing speed and the upwind edge sinks down. Tuned with the right fin the iSonic is definitely the right choice to make it on the podium in all conditions. The board also performs extremely controlled inside the jibe. With some more pressure you can go through narrow jibes as well and the board takes the best speed out of the jibe on the new course.

SURF recommendation: If you find the right fin for the the board, you will have a board, which combines a sporty riding performance, best control and objective performance in a superior way. The new wood carbon construction gives the iSonic a more crispy feeling compared to the former years.

Le retour de la Carve chez Starboard !

La planche typée freeride s'intercale entre la GO et la Futura. Elle est disponible en 141, 131 et 121 litres en construction Wood et Tufskin.
Disponible chez les revendeurs en France dés ce week-end.

Carve 121 Wood/Tufskin : 251cm x 68cm, voiles 5.0-8.0, aileron Drake Freeride Glide 400 Tuttle
Carve 131 Wood/Tufskin : 251cm x 71cm, voiles 5.5-9.0, aileron Drake Freeride Glide 440 Tuttle
Carve 141 Wood/Tufskin : 252cm x 73cm, voiles 6.0-9.5, aileron Drake Freeride Glide 460 Tuttle

Starboard is reintroducing the legendary Carve. The board that for many defined freeride in windsurfing is making a comeback this season, plugging the gap between the racing-inspired Futuras and the progressive GO.

According to Starboard, the new Carve is all about plug-and-play easy freeriding. They’ll continue to be comfortable, maneuverable and a joy to jibe. However, what were especially important for the Starboard R&D team were the ‘magic touch ride’ and the easy planing aspects that made the original series so iconic. Tiesda You explains, “The hardest part in the R&D work of the new Carves was to bring that magic touch ride that people love. Sometimes an exciting, sensational ride is more important than more quantifiable parameters like top speed and static weight. The jibing aspect was obviously also very important in our R&D process, so we made sure that all three designs really do carve beautifully. The third key design parameter was the easy-planing aspect. If you look at the length-to-width ratio of the new boards, they are pretty much the same as the original Carves. The feedback we received from the market, from shops and distributors worldwide was that we needed a line of freeriders that were exciting and easy-planing machines. Just like the Carves, we asked? They said, yes, just like the Carves. So how about bringing back the Carves, we asked? And they said yes, why not? And so here it is...”

Les tests des iSonic 111 et 121 par Planchemag :

iSonic 111 : http://www.star-board.com/2010/news_eve ... eadid=8218

"One of its big advantages is its versatility; its ability to excel in all kinds of wind and at different speeds, giving you the impression that they've added a sixth gear this year. The more varied the conditions were, the more solid and composed we felt. In choppy conditions, Starboard comes into its own as the most comfortable, the least tiring and easiest to control, allowing you to keep both feet planted on the board and saving your strength. In the range of 7 to 8 square meters, this 111 is your rival's worst nightmare."

Image

iSonic 121 : http://www.star-board.com/2010/news_eve ... eadid=8285

"The result: you can keep on pushing and the board won't go out of control. You can keep riding at 100% in tough conditions (chop / overpowered) when on others you would have had to slow down. Both great at upwind and across, it's on downwind courses where the iSonic could be caught up. Through jibes, there is more guidance, more stability, more speed and especially more exit speed. After multiple tests on both flat and chop, we found it to be the most competitive in its category, suitable to a very large audience, weekend warriors and long-distance addicts alike."
