Today, 20 knots of wind allowed some riders to try the channel. That lack of strong wind allowed them to just make it through the channel for the very first time. Interviews were held with NBC TV.

"1st day of official competition today and of course the day started with no wind, so breakfast in Diaz coffee shop then rigging sorting out kit was the order of the day. But be 3.00 the wind had filled to 18 to 20 knots and with a good forecast for the following day. I took the opportunity to have the 1st run down the course! Being the first competitor down the run was a bit daunting but great fun and will help with the nerves tomorrow. The rumors are flying around about what equipment will be tried in this new, including a Tandem and Asymmetric speed boards. Watch this space! "

Antoine Albeau did 45kts Vmax and 42.88 kts on 500m in 28-30 kts of wind :

Zara improved her record with 38.92 and then 39.16 finishing 40.95 knots!

Lena Erdil got the female turkish record, starting with 32 knots, increased with 35 and 37 and finally did 39.06 knots!

Anders has just improved and now is leading the race with 46.33 knots.

Luderitz Day 1 :

The wind was shy at the beginning of the morning, but from 12 am it started to increase gradually to reach 30-35 knots. Zara Davis (female windsurfer from the UK) showed straight away that she meant business and that breaking records was what she was here for! She improved with each run, reaching the British Female Speed Sailing Record (38.28
knots established by a kite surfer) ending with 40.95 knots on a 500m average, which is a new world record for windsurfing on production board (female).STILL NEED TO BE RATIFIED BY THE WSSRC.

Lena Aylin Erdil followed suit and, still getting used to the speed sailing techniques, she reached 39.06 knots to establish the Turkish Female Record for the first time.STILL NEED TO BE RATIFIED BY THE WSSRC.

All the competitors were excited to take a few runs in the channel, testing their equipment and getting ready for good strong winds that are expected tomorrow.

45/46 noeuds sur 500m avec du vent à 30/35 noeuds !

A2 : "Testé pas mal de matos aujourd'hui mais en 6.4 le vent était quand même assez light, gun de 45 et puis 42, on a atteint des vitesse assez rapide pour le vent que l'on a eu, top speed un peu plus de 48nds. Demain le vent est plus fort donc je pense que la 5.8 va sortir avec le gilet de poids !!"
