Authorised Starboard centre to open in Boracay, Philippines

The existing windsurfing school has come under new ownership and is pleased to announce its new and improved status as an “Authorised Starboard Centre”.
It is still located in the same perfect position within the grounds of Reef Retreat Resort.

The equipment will all be brand new 2010 range, covering - Freestyle, freestyle – wave, Slalom, Freeride, Intermediates, Beginners and SUP’s !.
The sails will be Supplied by Severne Sails and will all be rigged on minimum 75% RDM carbon masts (Where sails allow) and cover - wave, crossover, freeride, freerace etc.

What are the best time of year to go to bocaray bay?

Hi Yannou,

Sorry but my french is very poor so i will have to reply in english.

Our windy season runs from end of October / beginning of November right through until mid april, with our peak months being dec, jan and feb.
Our winds are cross- onshore and average strenght is 16 - 22knts.
Our bay has a reef protecting it so the clear warm waters are flat and for a long way only waist deep so perfect to learn as you can stand up easily.

Diving is possible? Is there a diving centre near the windsurf centre?

Hi Yannou,

Yes we have 30 scuba diving schools on the island so a very big support for the sport.
I am a certified divemaster myself so can recommend a couple of the dive schools who could take care of all of your diving needs.(1 school we work with is french owned so you will not have to worry about speaking english all the time )

J’avais passé 2 mois aux Philippines en janvier et février 1999 dont 10 jours à Boracay. Et je confirme que le vent y était bien présent tous les jours.
Une bonne petite soufflerie entre force 4 à 6. Le plan d’eau est vraiment sympa avec le lagon protégé par la barrière de corail.
C’est ici que j’ai appris le waterstart. D’ailleurs c’était la période pendant laquelle il y avait la coupe d’Asie du Sud Est de windsurf. Pas de kites à l’époque.

L’avantage de Boracay est que l’île n'est pas très grande. Tu t’y balades à pieds, avec la partie plus sauvage exposée au vent et la partie plages de sable blanc à l’abri du vent. Autrement dit, Monsieur va windsurfer et madame va faire bronzette ou se balader le long de la plage et faire les boutiques du coin. Je n’ai jamais vu une eau aussi transparente qu’à Boracay avec en prime de superbes couchers de soleil.

J’espère que l’urbanisation n’a pas dénaturée cette île qui reste l’un de mes meilleurs souvenirs de voyage avec Kop Phi Phi en Thaïlande, Bali en Indonésie et les îles Perhentian en Malaisie.

Une petite Vidéo Fun Cup bien loin de chez nous (je suis sur qu'il y a des idées à prendre pour la version W44... )
